Whitewashing and Set up Ways

Dilute the paint of selection with drinking water. I used about 75% paint to twenty five% drinking water for this glimpse. I did not want it to be also white so I wiped it off, with a rag, right right after applying the paint with a brush. Let that dry for a pair of hrs then you can commence installing.

two. Clean the Surface.

Wash the ceiling with a damp rag and some dish cleaning soap to take away any filth or dust.  This will enable the boards adhere to the ceiling when you glue them in location.

You are going to also want to take away the mild fixtures to reinstall right after your plank ceiling is mounted. We took this opportunity to swap the flush-mount “boob lights” with can lights and we love the change! Additional details about that coming in the online video.

Read additional about installing recessed can lights or see our picks for additional elegant flush-mount fixtures here.

3. Mark All the Ground Joists or Ceiling Rafters.

In my case, I was in the basement beneath the key amount of the residence, so I observed all the flooring joists with a stud finder and chalked a line throughout the place to identify the heart of each flooring joist with a chalk line, so I could nail the boards to the flooring joists guiding the drywall in the ceiling.

I have witnessed and researched other solutions to installing boards on the ceiling, but I resolved that just nailing and gluing to the ceiling was the greatest choice for me.  Our completed ceiling peak devoid of the new boards was 7′-6″ and I did not want to make it also a great deal shorter with other solutions that I saw.

See how other DIYers have mounted a plank ceiling in the kitchen area and in the attic, and a reclaimed wooden plank ceiling in a bedroom.

four. Start first row.

Start on the longest wall in the back of the place, reverse of the doorway.  I ran the boards the duration of the place, perpendicular to the doorway.  Lower the boards as you go with a miter saw.

Oriented the boards so the the tongue of the boards had been dealing with the entry of the place.  I required to make sure that from the entry of the place you could not see into the gaps of the tongue and groove of the boards.

I used the DAP DYNAGRIP Adhesive to the back of the board

Then used the pin nailer to keep it in location on the ceiling although the adhesive dries.  I nailed in to the edge of the tongue at and angle, to hide most of the nail heads.  Because I used a pin nailer most of the holes in which so tiny it did not even mater also a great deal that they in which showing.

5. Offset the Ends of the Boards

Offset the finishes of the boards at the very least 4″ from the past row.  You want to keep away from lining up the finishes on each row as a great deal as you can.  This will give you a nicer staggered glimpse.

six. Repeat the Method Right until the Ceiling is Completed

Repeat installing the tongue and groove planks until you’ve covered the ceiling. The future online video will include how to measure and slice about the holes for your lights, so be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel to see that!

For the final row of boards I ripped the boards to width with a table saw primarily based on the remaining width I essential to end it off.  I slice off the tongue conclude of the board.  You also have to take away fifty percent of the groove up from the ceiling in order to glue this piece in location.
