This venture is in our basement rest room, which we’ve been performing on for awhile now. The last detail we confirmed you was incorporating the cement board all over the rest room for the new tile.
Before we get much too a lot more into the rest room rework, it was a very good time to swap the old aluminum window with a new double pane vinyl window. The old window was mounted in the 50’s and is not quite vitality efficient.
The good news is, our window isn’t above the vanity/sink area like this one particular — but this sliding mirror was a clever answer if we did have that concern!

How to Remove an Old Window and Put in a New Window

I had to slice out the frame with a steel reciprocating observed blade. Just after building the cuts, I used the hammer to pry it all out.
If you have an old wooden window and can eliminate it in one particular piece, right here are some ideas for what to do with old windows.
2. Clear and prep the window area absolutely free from dust and debris.
Remove any filth, dust and old caulk from the old window.
3. Dry in shape new window.
I made sure that the window I purchased in shape in the house. Phew! Measure 2 times, get after!
four. Include wooden trim.
Because this window is in the basement concrete wall, I added redwood trim. We like performing with redwood for the reason that it is a strong wooden which is obviously rot- and temperature-resistant — we use it in nearly all our outdoor tasks, from our deck to our new lifted backyard garden boxes. (See redwood concrete bench, backyard garden arbor, and pergola, much too.)
I glued a redwood frame in spot with DAP DynoGrip. I necessary something to easily to drill into to continue to keep the window in spot.
four. Level the window.
I used a small level to make sure it was level in the opening. I was blessed, for the reason that the wooden frame that I made was just suitable and I didn’t have to have to use shims to level it.
6. Check window to make sure it opens easily.
Make sure you slide the window open up and closed to check that it operates just after it is level.
seven. Screw the new window to the wooden frame.
I used one one/2″ screws to attach the vinyl window to the wooden frame. Just make sure the screw head is a flat head that doesn’t get in the way of the window opening and closing.
Then I coated the screw heads with the caps that arrive with the window. It appears to be awesome and tends to make the window observe less difficult to continue to keep cleanse, much too.
6. Seal with foam.
I used DAP Touch ‘N Foam to close all the gaps of the window both on the within and outdoors.
seven. Seal with Caulk
Just after the foam dried I used DAP Window Trim Caulk to seal off the outdoors of the window to continue to keep the h2o out.
